LITTLE THINGS big problems-- Invasives Impacting Culture
More than 180 non-native species are found in the Great Lakes, many impacting cultural practices. The Grand Portage Band of Chippewa has been subsisting on the lakes for all of its history. Lake Superior is not just a beautiful destination but home and provides for a certain way of life. Invasive species threaten the native plants and animals of the Great Lakes, and threaten the lifestyle of the Ojibwe people.
